New site is designed to bring the nation’s leading real estate media company into the future of Internet marketing
RISMEDIA, July 16, 2007–RISMedia.com has more than just a new face - it is now equipped with the latest social networking technology to accommodate today’s real estate professionals and their customers, who are not only doing business online, but increasing their bottom lines using this must-have technology platform.
“In our continual metamorphosis to keep up with the changing landscape online, RISMedia, and specifically RISMedia.com, has evolved again into a full-featured social media online community,” said John Featherston, CEO and publisher of RISMedia. “We have always been on the leading edge of change in this industry, and today there is no one better positioned to serve the needs of real estate brokers, agents, vendors and now consumers than us, with our nearly 30 years experience and our position in the real estate market.”
While RISMedia continues to enjoy long-term success with its print publications, including its flagship monthly Real Estate magazine (circ. 40,000), Power Broker Network Report, Power Team Report, Power Broker Survey and more, Featherston says they understand that the marketplace has and continues to change, and that more and more business is conducted online. To that end, the real estate information leader has joined such trendsetters as YouTube, Google, Facebook and others in leading the real estate industry into using this new networking platform.
RISMedia selected Redmond, Washington-based Social Media Systems to build the site’s social networking platform. Company CEO Israel Rothman commented on what it was like building the new platform for them.
“They had several different, incompatible programs which needed to talk to each other and no way for their 2,000 unique visitors per day to interact in real time,” said Rothman. “They also had over 20,000 pages within their website that were needed to get back into the main Google search index and different ad sizes and rotations. It was a large job. Now RISMedia is using WordPress for all its functions and dedicated hosting for a very manageable monthly fee Now they have user forums, profiles, it’s very cool.”
In recognition of these changes, RISMedia has begun an ongoing rollout of more and more robust social media and social networking features on its Web site in order to provide its readership of over 300,000 combined access to not only all of its existing products and services, but also to each other in the new forums, which provide free profiles, blogging, private messaging and interaction on every level.

More New Projects Coming Soon
RISMedia also today launched it’s ‘local editor’ section of its new site. In the months to come, it will designate a local author/mediator for every city and state to provide a weekly news column of local and regional interest in its new RISMedia.com/local section of the site. (Official name to be announced). To visit Local News section of the site and learn how you can become a local expert, click here.
As a multi-user installation of the world’s most popular open-source blogging software, WordPress, these sections will be rolled out gradually nationwide as the author/sponsors are found and setup, one at a time, one for each major city.
Again, RISMedia selected Social Media Systems to build the local editor platform and will be working in partnership with them to offer a bundled advertising, SEO and editorial package.
“This is a great platform for larger, local brokers, agents and agent teams to become their town’s expert on the local markets, and is more able to supply credible, relevant reporting on local real estate issues, and local listings to consumers in a user friendly format,” said Darryl MacPherson, executive vice president of RISMedia. “The best way to get a message to the public is now to supply the market with what it seeks, free services and consumer-empowering software sponsored by a credible and trusted source — like RISMedia.”
With the local editor program, there will be one designated broker/contributor writing a weekly column (which will disseminated and be made available to RISMedia’s entire readership) per city.
The links from these local sections of our high-ranked “authority source” Web site, combined with search engine optimization, (which is included in the advertising service as part of the bundle) will help these local section sponsors to achieve first page ranking in the organic search results for many real estate search terms on Google, Yahoo, Windows live and others, Rothman says.
RISMedia invites its readers enjoy the new features, network with each other, talk to them, and join in the discussions.
Those interested in being a contributing author for your city and state should contact Social Media Systems at (206) 274-8076 or e-mail info@socialmediasystems.com.
