6 Ways to Design an Elevated Backyard Escape

Why limit the backyard play spaces to the kids when you can transform your backyard into a refuge where you can let off some steam. Whether you want a place to relax, let loose with friends or engage in some friendly competition, incorporating some R&R pastimes into your backyard will make it a true retreat. Here are some ways to design your backyard to create an elevated backyard escape.

A Place to Lounge
Having an outdoor place to rest is a luxurious backyard addition that brings vacation vibes to your home. A backyard daybed can provide a resort experience with a peaceful place to relax under a fully covered canopy. A swing sofa is exactly how it sounds—a sofa swing hybrid where you can spend an afternoon reading a book or have it lull you to sleep as you rock back and forth.

A Place to Entertain
Build a backyard bar into your hardscaping plans—you won’t regret it. Whether you want to have a relaxing glass of wine to watch the sunset or you want to play neighborhood bartender, a backyard bar will quickly become your favorite destination. Installing a refrigerator, ice maker and television will save trips inside to gather the essentials.

A Place to Catch a Flick
Bring your home theater outside with a projection screen and projector to enjoy the big screen under the stars. For a true luxury outdoor theatre experience, add a fully retractable TV screen to create an open-air cinema experience at home.

A Place for Outdoor Games
If you’re one for yard games, create a designated area for some friendly competition. For example, creating a bocce ball court on your property is an area that will get plenty of use if you have company over. If there is an activity that is easily accessible, people will gravitate to it.

A Place for Creativity
Whether it’s a place to garden, work, pursue a hobby or simply relax and breathe, build a small structure to escape to and let your creativity flow. Another option is to install floor-to-ceiling windows and move your treadmill or Peloton into this space. The ample windows will let you feel like you’re working out outside, regardless of the temperature.

A Place for the Kids
Create a designated space for children’s equipment. Consider rubber mulch as an alternative to wood mulch to cushion falls and give extra support to little feet. Help create magical childhood memories by outfitting the area with an epic play structure, a playhouse that’s full of wonder, a sports corner and whatever other activities make your children’s hearts happy.

Whether you like to recharge with solitude, the company of friends, or a combination of both, creating a space on your property to recharge is a luxury everyone deserves.
