Home Office Decor Ideas for Productivity

Woman working on computer in her home office during pandemic quarantine.

Creating a home office that inspires productivity, is comforting to use, and is functional in design can all require some prioritization skills and pre-planning when thinking of the decor and layout of the space. While you won’t need a pro to help you design a home office that checks all the boxes, it is certainly helpful to think like a pro and be aware of some key focuses when decorating and arranging.

Focus on Natural Light
Natural light is key if you have access. Improved natural lighting can boost your mood and your energy levels while getting you much-needed vitamin D even when you’re indoors. Consider positioning your desk and your windows to take advantage of natural light in your home office. If you need to soften our sunlight or want to promote privacy, use sheer curtains throughout the day as needed. This will allow you to filter light when it’s too bright, or when you need additional privacy, while still letting your space stay naturally lit all day long.

Add Plants for Productivity
Studies have shown that greenery contributes to a calming atmosphere, helps reduce stress, and makes it easier for you to focus. These are all excellent reasons to incorporate indoor plants when designing your home office. offer something that’s easy to take care of and that won’t detract from your work time. a plant such as a snake plant, a pathos or succulents for a hint of greenery without a lot of upkeep.

Find Your Storage Style
Functional storage is a must for a home office. A cluttered and dysfunctional space will only detract from your productivity and contribute to stress. You need an organized workspace with stylish options that genuinely work for your organizing style. Decide if you are the type who wants to be able to see the items you have, or if you’re the type that feels more comfortable with less visual distractions. Choose between storage options that are opaque and keep the area visually simple, or you can opt for clear storage baskets or bins that make items easy to access and prevent them from being out of sight and out of mind.

Use Color Your Way
One of the best parts of a home office is the ability to personalize your needs and your standards. When selecting colors, choose colors that promote productivity and creativity and meet your needs. If your job is stressful, consider soft blues and greens which can be calming. If you want a boost of energy, opt for yellows, reds and bright, vibrant colors that can inspire. Whatever you choose, consider painting an accent wall or using pops of color in the form of accessories to enhance your workspace without overwhelming it.
