How to Choose the Right Furniture for Your Guest Bedroom

Beautiful luxury white colored bedroom.

Having a dedicated guest bedroom can be helpful if you frequently host family and friends from out of town. When selecting furniture, think about how to make their stay as comfortable as possible.

Work With the Space You Have
Before you start looking at furniture, measure the room so you know how much square footage you have to work with. Measure the width of the door so you don’t fall in love with a piece of furniture, then struggle to get it into the room.

Create a simple diagram that includes the room’s dimensions and the locations of windows and doors. That will help you figure out which furniture to buy and how to arrange it and avoid making purchases that you’ll come to regret.

Select a Theme
You might want the furniture in your guest bedroom to fit in with the décor in the rest of the house, or you might want to design a unique space with its own theme. Whatever you decide, figure out what sort of overall vibe you’re going for. That will make it easier to narrow down your options when you start shopping for furniture.

Find a Comfy Bed
Think about who will stay in the guest bedroom. If most of your family and friends are couples, you’ll need a queen- or king-sized bed. If you’re designing a guestroom for kids, you might want to buy a set of bunk beds to take advantage of vertical space and not make the room feel cluttered.

Consider the height of the bed(s). It can be difficult for people to get in and out of a bed that’s too high or too low. If you decide to get bunk beds, make sure they have a secure ladder and safety railings.

When it comes to mattresses, people have different preferences. Look for a mattress with a level of firmness that will be comfortable for most of your guests.

You might want to include some throw pillows with bold colors or patterns. They can add a bit of flair without overwhelming your guests.

Provide Plenty of Storage
Visitors should have enough space to unpack their things and make themselves feel at home. The guest bedroom should have at least one dresser. If the room doesn’t have closet space, consider putting some hooks on a wall so family and friends can hang up jackets or dresses.

Give Your Guests a Comfortable Place to Relax
Even if your loved ones enjoy socializing, they’ll need some downtime. They might also want to retreat to the guestroom to give you some time to relax. Decorate the room with comfortable and stylish chairs that fit the overall theme. If there’s enough space, you might want to invest in a sofa or loveseat.

Design a Guestroom That Your Visitors Will Love
There are countless ways to decorate a guest bedroom. Whether you choose a traditional design or a unique theme, make your visitors’ comfort a top priority. They’ll appreciate your thoughtfulness and attention to detail.
