Does Your Home Need a Professional Organizer?

We’ve all given the KonMari method a try to simplify our living space and make it feel more relaxing. The reality, however, is that method alone might not be enough. If you’ve noticed all that extra stuff slowly working its way back into your home, it might be time to consider bringing in a professional organizer. Whether you’re staging your house for potential buyers or just want to put an end to the clutter, here’s what to expect when it’s time to hire a pro.

Collaborative Relationship
First, it’s important to understand that while a professional organizer will help you to get rid of all those extra boxes in the garage or that pile of clothes you haven’t touched in years, they are not there to simply clean your home. Ideally, they are teaching you how to implement a successful system for managing your living space. It might be the whole house or just that one storage closet that always seems to overwhelm you, but no matter what, the goal is to get to the root of the problem and make your home more livable in the long run.

Honest Inventory
If you don’t truly need it, be prepared to get rid of it. While a professional organizer might have to give you some tough love, a thorough inventory process is essential to achieving real results and breaking any hoarding habits. Once you have a realistic sense of what you truly want to keep, it will be much easier to maintain balance in the home and get rid of all the unnecessary junk before it starts to pile up in the future.

Design for Success
During this process, you might have to make a few design upgrades throughout the home and a professional organizer should be well-versed in collaborating with designers, decorators and even architects. Whether it’s built-in bookcases  and filing cabinets in your home office or shoe racks and jewelry displays in your closet, introducing the right functional design elements will set you up for success and ensure organization is maintained.
