Best Activities to Relax in Fall and Winter Months

A high angle view of a mature woman sitting in a holiday rental. She is reading a book and has a hot drink she is enjoying as she sits. She is in a holiday home in the Scottish Highlands.

Fall and winter chili and short days mean you’ll likely want to spend some time indoors enjoying some well-earned R&R. If you don’t want your early evenings to consistently result in binge-watching your favorite streaming service, these ideas are perfect for anyone seeking a cozy way to relax when it’s cold outside.

Coloring or Painting
Creative activities are perfect for indoor relaxation, Allowing you to focus your mind and unwind after a long day. The slower pace of fall and winter months is perfect for dedicating time to your favorite creative hobby. Using a painting kit or an adult coloring book is an excellent and almost meditative crafting option that doesn’t require you to build from scratch and does not need a lot of art supplies or space.

Bake a Seasonal Treat
The warming sense of fall and winter can be incredibly soothing. Instead of simply lighting your favorite candle, consider whipping up a classic fall or winter recipe and indulge the senses while engaging in a fun and relaxing activity. Just remember to keep your recipes simple or opt for a pre-made mix. The idea is to enjoy a fun activity, not a stressful and complex option.

Create a Gratitude Journal
The short days of fall and winter can often result in some winter blues. However, fall and winter are the perfect time to evaluate and take stock of all the things for which you are thankful. At the end of each day, list items, activities or situations that made you feel grateful. This can promote a better mindset throughout your day and can help you be more aware of the people and places in your life that you want to focus on or foster deeper connections to.

Cozy Up With a Good Book
There is nothing quite as relaxing as a great book in your favorite genre, a comforting blanket, and a cup of your favorite warming beverage. Pick a book of your choosing and Escape into a different world or learn about something new. If you’re not sure what to read, check your local library for suggestions or see if there is a book club in your area where you may find new friends and a relaxing activity that you can enjoy throughout the winter and fall seasons.
