How to Choose the Right Furniture for Your Home Office

Working from home has become the norm for many. If you work remotely, it’s important to have a dedicated space where you feel comfortable. The furniture in your home office will have a profound influence on your productivity. Here are some tips to help you choose wisely.

Consider Your Specific Needs
People who work from home perform a wide range of jobs. A home office design that works for someone else might not work for you. Create an office that’s tailored to fit your individual needs.

Think about the kind of work you do and everything that will have to fit in your office. You might just need a desk and chair, or you might need shelves, filing cabinets or a table and chairs to meet with clients. You might only use a laptop, or you might use a desktop, printer, copier and other equipment.

Figure Out the Best Layout
Some people set up a home office in a spacious spare bedroom, but for others, that’s not an option. Many have to make do in a corner of the living room or an area that was originally used as a closet.

The location and size of your home office might limit your options. If your work area has a small footprint, you’ll have to get creative. In that case, focus on utilizing vertical space and look for a desk with built-in shelves and drawers.

Think about how to arrange your office equipment and how to keep cords from becoming tripping hazards. Making some simple sketches can help you experiment with different layouts and figure out which will work best.

Select a Desk and Chair That Will Work for You
The desk and chair will be the two most critical pieces of furniture in your home office. Your desk should have a surface that’s large enough to fit your computer and any other devices that you use regularly, while still giving you space to review paper documents. If you spend a lot of time sitting at your desk, an ergonomic chair can be a smart investment.

You can shop for office furniture online, but visiting a brick-and-mortar store might be a better option. You’ll be able to try out several desks and chairs and find ones that are comfortable for you.

Don’t Forget About Lighting
A window can provide natural light, but the sun’s position will change throughout the day, and some days will be cloudy or rainy. Make sure you have lamps or other light fixtures that will provide enough artificial light for you to work comfortably without straining your eyes.

MLS Rules and the Zillow-ChatGPT Integration: What We Know So Far

Essentially, if you type “Zillow” into a ChatGPT query, the chat will bring up the Zillow app, then a user can use the Zillow app and its functionality—home searches, connecting with agents, etc.—as if they had opened the native Zillow app. Read more.
