Spring weather is the perfect time to air out your house, freshen up and tackle that deep cleaning that should be done annually. if you’re ready to make sure your house feels fresh and welcoming, there are some spaces within the home that you need to address. Go room by room and tackle the interior of the home. Dividing into zones can make the process smoother and seamless.
Bedrooms
Tackle your daily chores within the bedrooms by picking up any loose items and doing a general cleaning. After this is complete, you can start your deep cleaning checklist within these rooms. Begin by stripping and washing all of the bedding, including sheets, pillowcases, comforters and mattress covers. While your bedding is washing, flip or rotate your mattress. Now is also an excellent time to vacuum under the bed and move furniture around to do a deep vacuum and dusting; be sure to get hard-to-reach areas that you don’t usually address.
Dust nightstands, lamps and dressers, as well as the tops of ceiling fans and crown molding. Any mirrors or windows in your room should be wiped down with a streak-free cleaner to add an extra sparkle and shine to the space. Finally don’t forget to disinfect any high-touch areas just to ensure everything in the room is clean and ready for the year ahead.
Kitchen
The kitchen is often the heart of your home, so be sure to spend extra time in this space as you will likely need more time to address the areas that require deep cleaning. First, start with a general clean by decluttering and clearing out the refrigerator. Wipe down the shelves and toss any expired food. Don’t forget to look through your condiments to see if anything should be donated or tossed because you don’t often use it. Assuming your kitchen starts from a generally clean spot, now is the time to address the deep-clean areas and wipe down your cabinets and drawers both inside and out.
Keep in mind this may take a little extra time near the stove, where grease can build up. Get a good oven scrubber and degreaser and tackle the grease buildup on the oven and stovetop. Take some time to clean out your microwave and any other small appliances that should be wiped down. Now is also an excellent time to declutter any kitchen gadgets, appliances or dishware that you don’t need to keep. Finally, wipe down those hard-to-reach areas like the backsplashes or gaps above your kitchen cabinets that can collect dust and grime over time. Finally, sweep and mop your floor for a sparkling shine that will make working in your kitchen a dream.
Bathrooms
Bathrooms are the one areas in your house that are deep cleaned often. This means that deep cleaning your bathroom won’t be as tricky as it is for the other areas of your house. Do your general cleaning of the toilets, tub and showers, and bring your bathroom to its sparkling self. To get a spring deep clean within your bathroom, now is a great time to make sure no mold or mildew is growing on tile grout. If a mildew-specific cleaner isn’t doing the task, now is an excellent time to replace your molding or caulking with new molding. It’s a relatively simple and cheap project to complete over the weekend.
Don’t forget to take some time to look through your medicine cabinets and bathroom cabinets to declutter any old and expired medication or toiletries. Remember that medication needs to be appropriately disposed of; you can call your local pharmacy or police department to see if they have a drop box for old prescriptions.
Living Room
Your living areas see a lot of dust and grime each day. Whether you’re talking about your hallway and entryways or your living rooms and play areas, these spaces will need a bit of extra attention when it comes to vacuuming, dusting and air quality. Take some time to open the windows and let in the fresh air and tackle any dusty or grimy areas that need attention. Be sure to pull out large pieces of furniture like couches or coffee tables and vacuum underneath them. Now is the time to pay attention to floor molding, window sills and any other areas that you may not tackle in your daily cleaning routine.
