Should You Install an Indoor Pool In Your House?

Should You Install an Indoor Pool In Your House?

Swimming laps and floating in a pool are excellent ways to relax after a long day. If you live in a region that only has warm weather for a fraction of the year, installing an outdoor pool may not make financial sense. Building an indoor pool may be a better option.

Reasons to Build a Pool Inside Your House
With an indoor pool, you’ll be able to go swimming whenever you want, regardless of the time of year and the weather on a particular day. If you compare the cost per month of usage for an indoor vs. an outdoor pool, an indoor pool may make more sense.

When it comes to materials, you will have more options for an indoor pool than an outdoor one. When installing an indoor pool, builders won’t have to worry about how temperature fluctuations can affect materials.

An indoor pool can be much easier to maintain than one outdoors, as well. Since people won’t have to walk around outside to get to the pool, you won’t have to be concerned about dirt, grass, and other debris getting in the water. You won’t have to pull leaves and insects out of the pool or have to deal with larger animals that decide to take a dip. You will, however, still have to treat the water regularly with chemicals.

A pool can be appealing to kids, which makes trespassing and accidental drownings sources of concern with outdoor pools. You won’t have to worry about those issues if your pool is inside your house.

An indoor pool can help you avoid other problems and inconveniences associated with an outdoor pool. If your home is close to those of your neighbors and you install an indoor pool, you won’t have to worry about prying eyes. Sunburn won’t be an issue, either.

Downsides of an Indoor Pool
Building an indoor pool may cost significantly more than installing an outdoor pool. If you don’t have enough available space for a pool, you will have to build an addition. Heating the pool will also add to the overall cost of operation.

An indoor pool can release humidity inside your house. You will need a ventilation system to control the humidity level and to keep your house from being overwhelmed by the smell of chlorine.

Is an Indoor Pool Right for You?
An indoor pool can be expensive, but the cost may be worth it if you love to swim and you would use the pool on a regular basis. An indoor pool can increase your home’s value, but you shouldn’t expect to recoup a large percentage of your investment. On the other hand, the added convenience, the ability to use the pool year-round and the lower maintenance costs may be enough to make the high price tag worth it, especially if you plan to stay in your home for at least the next several years.
