The Simple Guide to Hosting Memorable Outdoor Parties This Season

The arrival of spring and summer months can usher in some of the most memorable time spent with friends and family. There is something magical about taking your celebrations outdoors, and whether you are planning a casual get-together or marking a special occasion like a graduation or birthday, opting for an outdoor party can be a great choice.

Choose the Perfect Location
Select a scenic location that is spacious enough to host your ideal guest count. Verify that there is enough space for activities, seating, and mingling. Infuse your party with personalized touches to make it feel extra special. Consider incorporating DIY decorations, chalkboard signs, and other decor.

If you pick your own backyard, there are few things to do:

  • Designate zones within your yard for various activities, food, and socializing. Arrange seating in clusters to encourage conversation and mingling, and if you are having an evening party, consider creating a cozy lounge area with outdoor sofas, bean bags, or hammocks where guests can relax and unwind. There’s nothing like relaxing next to the fire, so now is the time to bring out your fire pit.
  • Be aware of weather risks. In the days leading up to the party, be sure to keep an eye on the forecast and create contingency plans if the weather isn’t ideal. If your backyard doesn’t have a covered area already, consider renting or purchasing a pop-up canopy or tent to provide shelter from the sun or rain. Be aware that storms can come at any season, so have a plan B for indoor activities if inclement weather were to occur.

Plan Fun Activities
Having an idea of available activities and the time that guests will spend enjoying them is key to ensuring that the party flows effortlessly and creates a good time for all. Keep your guests entertained with a variety of outdoor activities. Lawn games can create a fun and friendly competition. Craft tables and water play areas are perfect for entertaining children. Want to create a truly memorable event? Consider renting a bounce house or setting up a DIY photo booth for added fun.

Focus on Guest Comfort
Keeping guests comfortable is key to ensuring everyone has a great time and is focused on creating lasting memories. Don’t forget essentials like sunscreen, bug repellent, and fans to keep everyone cool during hot days, or offer blankets for late evening events that may get chilly. Finally, offer tasty treats and snacks.
