What Does It Take to Reach the Boomer Market?

Home Best Practices
October 11, 2011, 3 pm
Reading Time: 2 mins read

Numbering nearly 78 million, baby boomers represent the largest and wealthiest group of buyers in the country. And while many agents traditionally focus their efforts towards first-time home buyers and Gen Y, those that receive advanced training and education in working with the powerful 50+ market have a unique advantage in today’s changing real estate climate.

Agents interested in specializing in the real estate needs of maturing Americans are earning the Seniors Real Estate Specialist® (SRES) designation by taking the SRES® course designed and conferred by the Center for Specialized REALTOR® Education of the National Association of REALTORS®.

The goal of the SRES® designation course is to instill knowledge and understanding of and empathy for real estate clients and customers in the 50+ market. In completing this education curriculum, SRES® designees develop the business building skills and resources that working with this niche market requires.

Completely revised this year, agents can complete the two-day SRES® course in a live classroom setting or online through REALTOR® University, NAR’s exclusive online destination for official NAR designations. Those who successfully complete the curriculum and are in good standing with the SRES® Council and NAR or a cooperating international association will join the more than 15,000 REALTORS® who have earned the SRES® designation.

In addition to the unique opportunity to learn and build key skills in counseling the 50+ market through their next transition through advanced education and training, the SRES® designation provides members with access to a wealth of benefits including:

Continuous market knowledge. Seniors Real Estate Specialists® can offer clients relevant information on current trends in real estate transactions for the 50+ market with free webinar training and consumer newsletters.

50+ market referrals and networking. Our online SRES® member database at the SRES® consumer website at sres.org puts you in front of REALTORS®, buyers and sellers looking for a qualified agent across the country.

Members-only section online. The SRES® website links you to the latest news and events related to the 50+ market and gives you access to tools to help you thrive in your career, including SRES® logos, marketing tools, and more.

Marketing collateral
• Customizable REALTOR® to consumer marketing materials
• Direct response contact plans
• Marketing letters
• Scripts and concepts for contacting clients age 50+
• Access to free and discounted senior-focused business networks like Alzheimer’s Association, AgeInPlace.com, MoveSeniors and many more.

With a curriculum that includes techniques and tools for counseling buyer-clients, the SRES® designation course counts as elective credit towards earning the Accredited Buyer’s Representative (ABR®) designation for buyer representatives. Agents interested in earning the SRES® designation can visit http://seniorsrealestate.com to learn more or http://Training4RE.com to enroll in the designation course offered prior to the 2011 REALTORS® Conference and Expo on November 9-10, 2011 in Anaheim, California.

A wholly-owned subsidiary of the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR), The Real Estate Buyer’s Agent Council (REBAC) is the world’s largest association of real estate professionals focusing specifically on representing the real estate buyer.
