Remember, recalled products are eligible for repair or replacement. This is a benefit you don’t want your buyers to miss. Once their appliances are in the online database, that record stays active as long as they own that home.
Buyers can also update the record created during the inspection with any new appliances they purchase. They can even add appliances that they bring to the new home. That way, if one is recalled, they’ll be notified—even if they didn’t return the warranty card. Plus, they’ll receive an email each month that lists any new appliance recalls.
One of my clients found an additional benefit to adding the recall check to the family’s home inspection: During their final walk-through, they suspected the sellers had replaced a major appliance in the high-end home with one of lower quality. They called and asked us to check the model and serial numbers on their recall check report, which allowed us to resolve the issue on the spot.
