The People Revolution: 5 Resolutions to Succeed in 2014 (Part 2)

Home Best Practices
By Patty McNease, Director of Marketing for Homes.com

Reading Time: 4 mins read

Smith shares that if you are a real estate agent passionate about working with buyers, and are suddenly given the opportunity of a $2 million listing, you should refer it to someone else and continue doing what you love.

“No is the new yes. When you align your decision making with your purpose and passion, you’re not saying no to anything that would have taken away from your business anyway,” Smith says. “When you focus on your passion, it makes it easy to say no.”

Resolution 9: Surround yourself with great people. Principle nine revolves around “Stars are Made in Hollywood,” which Allison explains as comparing the real estate business to Hollywood, where all the right people are to succeed (writers, directors, actors, etc.)

“This becomes more important in the peoplework era as nobody succeeds alone and the more you can surround yourself with great people, the more successful in life you will be,” he says. “Surround your business with the best people aligned to whatever passions cause you to wake up in the morning. At the end of the day, your success will be about the people surrounding you and the environment you put yourself in.”

Smith likes to use the example of the Chicago Bulls to hammer this point home. Sure, Michael Jordan was a superior NBA player, but the team would never have won as many championships as they did without surrounding MJ with complementary players like Dennis Rodman and Scottie Pippen.

“You have in real estate a team that is trying to grow and no one is immune to people,” Smith says. “Make your business about people who can offer different things, but are still great.”

Resolution 10: Write your own story and make it happen. In a world where business is about people working with other people, principle 10 reminds, “Only You Can Write Your Story.”

“Only one person will decide what difference you make in this world and that’s you,” Allison says. “The bad news associated with that is it’s on you. The good news is there’s never been a time in society where it’s been more accessible for people to write their own story. The main thing to take away from the peoplework world is to identify your passion, visualize it and make your story happen. Don’t let anything stand in your way.”

With these inspiring people-focused principles in play, 2014 should prove to be a revolutionary shift for your business. Visit our blog to watch the full recording of 10 Ways to Grow Your Business in 2014, People First Not Technology.

Resolution 11: Take advantage of free real estate education from industry leaders. Next year, plan to pick up even more best practices from Secrets of Top Selling Agents webinars hosted by experts like Katie Lance and Gary Vaynerchuk in January and February. You can’t afford to miss free advice from leading professionals who offer timely advice on how real estate pros of all levels can maximize their success.
