Doorsteps Launches Rental Property Bot for Facebook Messenger

Home Industry News
December 8, 2016
Reading Time: 2 mins read

Doorsteps, powered by realtor.com®, recently launched the Doorsteps rental property bot for Facebook Messenger, which automatically sends inquiring consumers realtor.com rental listings within Messenger. The bot also provides daily updates, allowing consumers the ability to act quickly on listings that meet their criteria. Consumers can subscribe to the bot by visiting the realtor.com Facebook page, clicking message and typing “subscribe.”

“Given the competitive nature of the rental market, where moving quickly can mean landing the home of your dreams, it’s important to create a rental search experience on the platforms our consumers are using in their daily lives,” says Todd Callow, senior director of Product at realtor.com. “Doorsteps has already revolutionized rentals on mobile with Doorsteps Swipe, and we’re expanding that to our first messaging platform, bringing instant rental searches to where many consumers often are—Facebook and Messenger.”

With the Doorsteps bot, consumers share the location they’re looking in (or their phone’s geolocation). The bot then responds with simple questions to determine rentals that fit what the consumer is looking for, such as the number of bedrooms or bathrooms, or the monthly price range. Consumers can update their preferences at any time.

The bot responds to search queries instantly with a list of rentals meeting those preferences. Consumers can scroll through that list within Messenger, viewing monthly cost and photos. Consumers can then learn more by being directed to the listing on Doorsteps, or share that listing with their friends through Messenger.

The daily updates are currently sent at 10 a.m. ET, with the ability to customize the time coming soon. The bot will expand to other messaging platforms early next year.

Realtor.com is operated by News Corp subsidiary Move, Inc.
