How to Design Your Dressing Room

Lavish dressing rooms are in high demand among luxury homebuyers. It’s not just about having a well-organized storage space for your vast shoe collection anymore, but for those who consider getting dressed to be a process that can’t be rushed, a personal dressing room can be an indispensable luxury. Here are a few tips for designing an area that does far more than hold your wardrobe.

Strategic Storage

First, you’ll have to identify your storage needs based on how you’re going to fill out the dressing room. Do you need racks for shoes, ties and hats? Display cases for jewelry, sunglasses and handbags? Open shelving allows you to take stock of everything without having to rummage through different areas.

Take a Seat

Let’s be honest, getting dressed can take a while. Be it an ottoman or chaise lounge, it’s better to have a place to sit down and get comfortable when you’re trying on different pairs of shoes or simply visualizing your outfit for the day.

Mirrors Galore

While you’ll need a full-length mirror or two to see how you look, incorporating mirrors into the space will also help when it comes to making the dressing room feel bigger. Additionally, a separate vanity with a mirror is a necessity for personal grooming and applying makeup.

Center Island

When space permits, having an island in the center of the dressing room serves multiple purposes. On top, you can place display cases or even lay out different options to mix and match before getting dressed, while the area underneath provides ample storage for clothes that are out of season.

Keep It Light

Lighting cannot be overlooked. Shelves with built-in LED lights to display your clothes give the feel of a showroom and help you distinguish between different colors. Wall fixtures and chandeliers can provide visual appeal and contribute to the luxurious atmosphere, as well.
