How to Design the Ultimate Children’s Room

If there’s one place in the house to cut loose and have some fun designing, it’s the kid’s room. These days, parents are going big on whimsical décor and creating wonderlands where children can run wild with their imagination. For a balance between practical and playful, here are a few tips for designing the perfect space for your little ones.

Fun Meets Function

If you don’t want toys and trinkets strewn across the floor, furniture that can also double as storage space, like the Anne Skirted Storage Ottoman from One Kings Lane, is key to keeping an organized children’s room. While bright colors might be your first instinct, bear in mind that a darker color palette will do a better job of hiding the inevitable stains.

Foster Creativity

A designated space for arts and crafts is an excellent way to foster your child’s creativity. An easel is always a popular choice for kids who love to paint, but chalkboards can be another great option because they won’t leave too much of a mess. Chalkboards can also double as a place to list chores for older children.

Keep It Open

No matter the size of the room, it’s important not to over decorate and make it feel cluttered. More often than not, kids just want to spread their toys out and play on the floor. By keeping the space open, there’s room for whatever activity they choose.

Pick a Theme

Having a fun theme is always an exciting way to personalize your child’s room. From surfing to safari, the possibilities are endless, though keep in mind that you want a theme they can grow into without feeling too childish in a few short years.

Ready for Reading

Whether it’s an adorable little desk or a couple of bean bag chairs, a reading area is helpful when it’s time for children to unwind. It’s too easy for kids to sit down in front of a screen these days, making it all the more important to encourage them to get into a good book at a young age.
