4 Bedroom Design Mistakes to Avoid

Your bedroom is the room in your home where you will spend a large portion of your time in. It goes without saying that it should be a beautiful space you love being in. All too often, we get trapped into buying things just because they look luxurious but they don’t actually add value to our space. Here are some mistakes to avoid when designing your bedroom space.

Too many pillows. It’s easy to get into the habit of buying every beautiful pillow you see to add to your bed, and while it can feel luxurious, it doesn’t actually look good. Not only is it an inconvenience every time you want to get into bed and have to take them all off, it’s not adding much appeal to the look of your bedroom. Clutter is clutter, no matter how much you paid for it.

The wrong size bed for the space. While the sign of ultimate luxury might be a California king size bed, is it actually appropriate for your space? If your master suite isn’t oversized, or the windows would be covered, does a bed that large really make sense? Alternatively, if your room is extra-large but you only have a queen-sized bed, that could leave the room looking empty. It’s all about finding the right balance for the space.

Poor lighting. Lighting in the bedroom is a tricky thing. People tend to land in one extreme or the other—either too bright or too dim. Too bright, and you’ll have issues falling asleep. Too dim, and you won’t be able to see when you’re trying to read before bed. Installing a dimmer is the key to success on both ends of the spectrum, giving you complete control depending on the time of day.

Crazy colours. While you definitely want to express yourself and your unique personality in your home, when it comes to your bedroom, bright colours actually work against the purpose of this room. Your bedroom is where you should be relaxing and sleeping, so it’s not the best space to cover in bright orange paint or banana yellow sheets. Save that for the rest of your home (or not) and stick to blues or more neutral tones that tell your body to relax.
