5 Easy Ways to Increase Your Home’s Value

Regardless of where you’re living in Canada, there are a number of ways you can easily add value to your home. You won’t have to empty your bank account by putting these five suggestions to use:

Deep clean. There’s nothing better than a clean, tidy home, and something as easy as investing some time and elbow grease into giving your place a deep cleaning can make a big difference in its value. Your home is where you and your family make memories, and stuff can get messy, especially in certain areas like the kitchen and bathrooms. Pulling furniture out, cleaning behind appliances and cleaning the grout in bathrooms takes time. If your busy life finds you short on time, hire local pros to do the job. It will be money well spent.

Declutter. Family life can get hectic; everyone is doing his or her own thing, and so stuff tends to accumulate. Clutter can easily get out of hand, so taking stock of some things that really should go is the first step. When your home is organized, it looks cleaner and even larger, which makes it more attractive to potential purchasers. It will also make you feel better, too. Not to mention, it will be easier to keep clean.

Fresh paint. Nothing transforms a tired room as quickly as a fresh coat of paint. If you’re pretty good at painting and don’t mind doing the job, you can save yourself some money. If not, you can get the job done professionally for between $200 – $300 per room. If you’re planning on selling, remember to choose colours that will appeal to everyone. Neutrals are your best bet. You can always add extra colour with accessories and window coverings.

A tidy yard. First impressions of a home are a big deal. The outside of your home is what a buyer will see first. If the yard is well-maintained, you’ve already earned a few points. Mow the lawn regularly, keep hedges trimmed, water the plants and flowers, and do some weeding when necessary.

Clean windows. This has got to be the least favourite chore of any homeowner, but it goes a long way in creating a great impression. When the exterior of your home is attractive, it really adds a lot of curb appeal, so giving the windows a good cleaning is really important. While you’re outside, it will give you the chance to have a look at some other things you might want to do, like giving that worn front door a fresh coat of dazzling paint in a fetching colour.
