Staging: A Bedroom for Everyone

Different bedrooms have different personalities, and when staging your home for sale, presenting spaces for family members of various ages is smart thinking.

Obviously, a master bedroom is going to look different than a teen’s room, so why not send the message that your home has the perfect bedroom for everyone? These tips can spruce up bedrooms and add to their appeal.

The Perfect Master Bedroom
The people who actually decide whether or not to buy a home will most likely be sleeping in the master bedroom. Ideally, you have a large bed here, at least queen sized, but it’s also a good idea to invest in new sheets and comforters. If you’re selling during winter, set a warm, cozy scene. Clear out closets by donating and giving things away and placing off-season clothes in storage.

Large bedrooms are especially appealing, and if your master bedroom is big enough, set up a seating area, preferably near a window with a nice view. Clean the windows and consider having the curtains cleaned—or buy new ones.

A Place for Teens
A teenager’s bedroom can be a source of frustration, even for parents who aren’t selling their home. Trying to get a teen to keep his or her room clean is always challenging, but it’s imperative when you’re trying to entice people to buy a house. Cleaning and organizing are of utmost importance—closets, drawers, desks and entertainment centers are all areas that should be neat and tidy.

Also, consider taking down posters. Your teen might protest, but a huge picture of a favorite celebrity or athlete can be distracting, leading to a conversation about music or sports instead of letting visitors focus on the room. Keep them safely stored and promise your teen that they can display these favorite posters in their new room.

Tips for a Younger Kid’s Room
First, take a look at the toys. There are sure to be broken toys and lots of things your kid hasn’t played with in years that are taking up a lot of space. Throw away the broken toys and give away or donate the others. Do the same with clothes and books.

Painting is an easy way to spruce up any room. Walls in kids’ rooms have a way of getting dirty, scratched and scruffy, so consider giving the walls in the little one’s space a fresh coat of paint.
