Add Peppermint to These 4 Recipes for the Perfect Winter Baking

If you are ready to stay inside and warm up while baking this season, there are a few classic recipes you should consider adding peppermint to for a perfect winter flavor.

Chocolate Chip Candy Cane Cookies. Chocolate chip cookies are a baking classic for a reason; this easy-to-make treat is a hit with all ages, and nothing beats a warm gooey cookie on a cold winter’s night. Next time you get ready to bake this classic treat, mix it up by using white chocolate chips and a topping of crushed candy canes before baking. The crunchy minty combo will have you coming back for more, and they are simple enough for children to make, too.

Peppermint Chip Ice Cream. While it’s not technically a baking recipe, nothing pairs better with your chocolate chip cookies than a scoop or two of homemade peppermint ice cream. Start with a traditional vanilla base using your ice cream maker, or let kids get involved by using a Ziplock bag. When your ice cream is nearly finished, add some mini chocolate chips and peppermint extract to taste. For added fun, layer the ice cream between two chocolate chip candy cane cookies to make an ice cream sandwich.

Peppermint Thumbprint Cookies. Thumbprint cookies—a cookie made with a thumbprint pressed into the dough to allow for a center topping—are a delicious treat any time of year. Winterize this classic recipe by creating a base of sugar cookie dough and filling the thumbprint with a chunk of peppermint chocolate before baking. The end result will be just as delicious as delicately decorated sugar cookies, with a fraction of the time spent.

Peppermint Cheesecake. If you are in the mood for a creamy mint treat, look no further than a peppermint cheesecake. Add a little flair to your traditional cheesecake base by incorporating peppermint extract and topping with crushed peppermint candies. If you are a chocolate lover, feel free to add a chocolate drizzle to your topping as well.
