Simple, Life-Changing Items to Make Your Home Run Smoothly

Keeping your home running smoothly doesn’t require the best gadgets out there. However, a few good additions to your home can certainly help to make your homelife and day-to-day living a little easier. If you don’t already have these simple, but life-changing items, it’s time to make your home as cozy and efficient as possible.

Blackout Curtains. You may think your current blinds or curtains work fine enough, but if busy city lights or even a bright full moon pose an obstacle to your sleep, you’ll be surprised at how much blackout curtains can help. These are especially helpful for anyone who works night shifts, or children who need to take naps during the day. The best part? They’re not priced much higher than standard curtains, meaning you can sleep more soundly than ever without breaking the bank.

Slow-Close Toilet Seats. If you have young children, particularly boys, slow-close toilet seats are a must-have. Avoid constant loud crashing noises from the bathroom, and more importantly, ensure that no child accidentally slams the lid on their hand.

Light Timers. Light timers are often found in bathrooms with heat lamps, but there’s no reason to limit them to just this purpose. Save electricity and save yourself from nagging your housemates or children to turn off the lights when they leave the bathroom or mudroom by installing light timers in any area your family doesn’t stay in long-term.

Electric Blanket. If your older house is drafty, or you simply have a different idea than your partner about what the ideal home temperature should be, an electric blanket can be just what you need to keep warm without causing your heating bill to skyrocket. Use a personal-size blanket to get warm while you’re on the couch, or use a Queen or King size blanket for your bed. To sleep safely and keep costs down, turn your blanket on to warm up your bed before you sleep. Nothing will feel more comfortable than a warm bed waiting for you at the end of the day, and you can turn your blanket off before drifting to dreamland.

Having the basics in your home is important, but don’t miss out on those inexpensive items that can make your everyday life better.
