4 Bathroom Items That Should Be Replaced

4 Bathroom Items That Should Be Replaced

Everyone knows the importance of keeping the bathroom clean. Of all the rooms in your home, the bathroom is certainly the first area you risk grime and germ build-up. While consistent cleaning is an important part of caring for your bathroom, even the tidiest of homeowners may be forgetting the important task of replacing bathroom items often enough. Don’t forget to replace these four items in your bathroom.

Bath Toys
As fun as your children’s adorable rubber ducky may be, it could be harboring an unhealthy mold. Squeaky rubber bath toys often do not drain properly, causing mildew and grime to build up over time. If your child’s bath toy has seen better days, consider replacing them or swapping to a toy that is designed to drain more easily.

Shower Curtain Liners
Shower curtain liners too often are ignored, but these seemingly clean items can start to build up an excess of soap scum if you’re not careful. For flimsy liners, it is best to dispose and replace them every six months. To prolong the life of your liner, use a gentle cleaning mixture of water, vinegar and dish soap. If your shower curtain liner is a more durable brand, you may even be able to place it on a gentle cycle in the washing machine to keep it clean and prevent the need for replacement.

Your Toilet (or Its Components)
Though they can be replaced sooner if necessary, toilets should be replaced every 10-15 years. If your toilet seems to be malfunctioning, but it shouldn’t be at the end of its life, check your toilet’s parts individually to verify what might need to be replaced. Swapping out your toilet’s wax ring, tank flapper or flush valve can ensure it runs as good as new.

Toothbrush Holder
Your dentist likely reminds you to replace your toothbrush every 3 months, but you’re likely forgetting about its holder. While your toothbrush holder will certainly have a longer life than your toothbrush, if your holder does not come apart for easy cleanup, you will likely need to replace it after a while. Bathroom germs, toothbrush moisture and a relatively enclosed space can lead to mildew over time. The good news? If your toothbrush holder can come apart for washing, you can ensure it is sanitized through a quick trip in the dishwasher.
