The Secrets of Elite Performers – Tuning In

December 10, 2008
Reading Time: 3 mins read

By Kim Ades

RISMEDIA, Dec. 11, 2008-At any given moment in your life, what is more important-what you know, or how you feel? Step back and consider that question. The answer, of course, is how you feel. Some may try to argue this point but the reality is that when you feel happy, powerful and confident it’s because you already own the thoughts and knowledge necessary to spark these emotions.

There is a universal law governing how we create results. In its most simple form, this law says that what we focus on grows. Specifically, our thoughts drive our feelings; our feelings drive our actions; our actions drive our results. So we need to effectively manage our thoughts in order to generate the results we want in our lives. The challenge is that we have over 60,000 thoughts per day and most of us have absolutely no idea what these thoughts are.

We want you to tune in to how you feel because it’s a direct indication of you’re thinking. Your thinking impacts all your actions.

Imagine this: You’re picking up the phone to make a cold call on a fresh prospect. How do you feel? Well, if you’re anxious, nervous, scared, or downright sick to your stomach, then the thoughts in your head are definitely not aligned with your desired outcome of getting an appointment. Chances are, you’re thinking thoughts like: “I don’t want to do this. I hate making these calls because I feel like I’m bothering people. I hate being hung up on which is probably what’s going to happen. I’d be lucky to get the appointment…”

How do these thoughts serve you and support your goal? They don’t!

When you tune in to how you feel, you can instantly recognize your disempowering emotions and you can redirect your thoughts to better achieve your goals.

Here are a few ideas about how to re-frame cold calls: “This prospect has a need; I can be the person that fills that need. There is no other salesperson in my field that knows more than me about my product or service – I would be doing this prospect a disservice by not contacting them. I operate with complete integrity and truly care about my clients; I’ll make this prospect understand and feel that.”

Now, how do you feel? Better? Do you feel calm, collected and confident? Do these thoughts serve you and support your goal? Absolutely!

Like anything, it’s the consistent approach of tuning into your feelings that will allow a large impact in your life. Some people think exercise is annual event; likewise, tuning into your feelings as a tool to create awareness of and change your thoughts has to be done consistently in order to get results. The best way you can manage this process is to start journaling. Journaling has a transformational effect. It is subtle but very powerful and works faster and more effectively at driving results than anything that exists in the coaching world today.

By writing in a journal you are training your mind to instantly recognize your thoughts as a result of how you feel in each moment. One of the first exercises we give our clients when writing in their journal is to monitor their mood. This is the first step in becoming aware of your thoughts. And when you have awareness of and can choose your thoughts, you now have harnessed the power to truly create anything you desire in your life.

How can you start tuning in and building this habit? Start a journal! Go to www.fom52.com and start monitoring your mood. We know you’ll start feeling better instantly and unclogging your brain from all the unhealthy thoughts that make you feel sluggish in your career and in your life. Before you know it, you’ll be springing out of bed and looking forward to starting your calls!
