Little Known Renovation Must-Do’s

If you’re embarking on a home renovation journey, kitchens, bathrooms, and living spaces are often the most common home renovation projects. These projects significantly impact the look and feel of the home and can be the most fun to reveal and live in post-renovation. However, other home renovation projects aren’t as glamorous but equally essential. So, if you’re itching to embark on a home renovation project, read on to learn more about the often-overlooked projects that many homes could benefit from.

Replacing the windows
Replacing your home’s windows can feel like a dreaded project that you may put off. However, new windows can have significant payoffs. Aesthetically, replacement windows can give your home a considerable facelift. You can select new window styles and colors; for a more substantial project, you can change the look and functionality entirely. For example, your double-hung windows in the front living room can become a walk-out window to your front porch. Or, the small window in the back family room can be transformed into a bay or floor-to-ceiling window, offering expansive backyard views. Functionally, new windows can help increase your home’s energy efficiency, lower your heating and cooling bills and keep your home more comfortable in the summer and winter months.

Updating the systems
Updated HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems are essential to an optimally functioning home. While these are maintenance projects that aren’t visible, ensuring the bones of the house are strong will give you a foundation to renovate the visible areas smoothly. Updating these vital home systems will make your home more energy efficient, with fewer safety risks and more functional. Additionally, upgrading the systems when they’re still working is better than waiting until something goes wrong.

Upgrading builder-grade items
Even if your home is newer construction, builder-grade finishes may have made their way into the home, such as light fixtures and hardware. Updating these small accents throughout the home can have a significant impact. New light fixtures are an easy way to make a quick and significant visual impact. Light fixtures, especially in passageways like hallways, can be an afterthought. Replacing these with decorative fixtures can make every space in your home feel special. Hardware is another simple update that can make a significant impact. Replacing the knobs and pulls on the kitchen cabinets or the doorknobs and hinges throughout the house can feel like giving the house a new set of jewelry.

Replacing the interior doors
Instead of painting the interior doors, replacing the doors with a new set can make the house feel fresh and new. In addition, a new set of doors in an updated style can unexpectedly transform the space. Therefore, choosing a style that aligns with the home’s existing architectural style is essential when selecting the doors.
