Best Home Projects to Start in the Summer Months

The warmer months are the perfect time to tackle some of the larger home projects you may have been delaying. The warmer temperatures mean you can spend more time outdoors, making it easier to stay out of the way of contractors or other home improvement professionals. It’s also a time to complete home maintenance projects before the cooler temperatures reappear in the fall. Read on for the best home projects to start during the summer months.

New siding
Replacing your siding during the warm weather will help prevent your home from getting too cold. Siding helps insulate your home and keep the warm air inside, so waiting until it’s warm out to replace your siding will make your home feel the most comfortable.

Exterior painting
Waiting until the temperatures are consistently warm outside is the best time to paint the exterior. It should be between 40 and 50 degrees outside for the paint to dry, so saving exterior painting projects until it’s warm out will ensure the best application effectively.

Replacing exterior doors
During exterior door replacements, the door area will be open for a day or more during the installation process. Saving this project for warmer summer days will make your home more comfortable during installation.

Installing new windows
Like exterior door replacements, replacing the windows means that the window areas will be exposed to outdoor elements during installation. In addition, if a widow replacement project is done when it’s cold out, it can make the home cold and drain electricity.

Interior painting
Interior painting projects can fill your home with strong paint fumes. Painting during the summer, when it’s comfortable to leave the windows open, can provide better circulation and lessen the amount of paint fumes in your home.

Kitchen updates
There is no convenient time for a kitchen renovation, especially if you have a full house. However, whether it’s a complete kitchen renovation or more minor kitchen updates, saving this project for the summer months can be less stressful when you can grill and eat outdoors and benefit from summer’s relaxed pace.

Cold weather home prep
At the beginning of summer, thinking about what you need to do to prepare for fall can be unfathomable. However, scheduling the maintenance tasks you must complete before fall’s chillier temperatures can offer peace of mind that these tasks are complete. Having your fireplace professionally cleaned, the HVAC system inspected, and the exterior, such as the roof and gutters, can prevent potential issues during colder temperatures.
