Spring Cleaning Tips to Remember When Selling Your Home

When you’re selling your home during the spring real estate season, spring cleaning takes on a new meaning. A detailed spring cleaning program can significantly improve your home’s appearance to potential buyers. If you’re preparing to put your home on the market, read on for the spring cleaning tips every seller should remember.

Declutter
Decluttering your home to sell and move takes on a different meaning than standard seasonal decluttering. When you’re selling your home, every item needs to be cleared out when you move, so now is the time to be honest with what you need to take. Also, removing as many items as possible will help your house feel more extensive and open to potential buyers.

Deep clean
Deep cleaning your home in the spring is incredibly satisfying. It is also a crucial part of the listing process when you’re selling your home. Cleaning commonly overlooked areas, such as baseboards, ceiling fans, exterior windows, and upholstery and carpets, will help give your home a like-new feel.

Touch-up walls
Cleaning up scuffs and marks on the walls and baseboards is the first step to crisp and clean walls and should be part of any spring cleaning plan. When you’re selling your home, a fresh coat of neutral-hued paint will instantly rejuvenate the whole home.

Organize closets and cabinets
Storage is at the top of most buyers’ minds, so thoroughly clean out the closets and cabinets and organize the remaining items. Investing in storage solutions such as baskets, bins, or containers can help conceal your items and give buyers ideas on how they can efficiently use the space for their own belongings.

Focus on curb appeal
When you’re spring cleaning, you’re focusing on the indoor spaces that received plenty of use during the winter months. However, when you’re selling your home, curb appeal is essential. The exterior is a buyer’s first impression, so be sure to trim the bushes and hedges, powerwash the exterior, touch up the paint, and style the front porch with seasonal planters and any other seasonally appropriate furniture and accents, such as chairs, outdoor pillows, or an outdoor rug.

Make minor repairs
If there are any minor issues around the home, now is the time to make those repairs. Leaky faucets, squeaky doors, and loose cabinet handles are areas to repair so your home looks and feels well-maintained.

Air out the home
There is no better feeling than fresh air traveling throughout the home during the spring. When you’re selling your home, ensuring it’s odor-free is imperative. Deep cleaning the carpet, drapery, rugs and upholstery are all ways to remove lingering odors. Additionally, deep cleaning the garbage disposal in the kitchen sink, scrubbing the garbage cans, and even applying a fresh coat of paint in the living spaces can help eliminate stubborn odors.
