RISMEDIA, March 31, 2011—Prudential Joyce Realty is helping rally Rockland County, N.Y., in the fight against Autism by teaming with local merchants to raise funds and awareness of the disorder, the company has announced.

The company will kick off its month-long community initiative Friday, April 1—coinciding with start of Autism Awareness Month—with a street fair held in the municipal parking lot on North William Street, Pearl River, 4-7 p.m. The event will feature a DJ, refreshments and 50-50 raffle.

Merchants will also be on hand to explain their role in the “Light It Up Blue Rockland” campaign, in which they donate a portion of their net profits during April to Autism Speaks, one of the nation’s largest Autism science and advocacy organizations dedicated to funding research into the causes and potential treatments for Autism.

“We describe these business partners as ‘Autism Angels’ because they simply care,” says event co-chair Kevin Joyce, president, Prudential Joyce Realty. “We’re calling on Rockland County residents to support these fine businesses during April and beyond to make a difference in the fight against Autism. We are hoping that all the businesses in Rockland will join in to help in this worthy cause and to Light Up all of Rockland blue.”

Prudential Joyce Realty and participating merchants will decorate their storefronts with “Light It Up Blue” posters and other treatments. The town of Orangetown will participate by placing a blue chalk line down Central Avenue in Pearl River for the kickoff event.

“Autism touches many in Rockland County; nationally, one in every 110 children are diagnosed with the disorder,” says Joyce. “By working together and having fun in the process, we’ll raise funds and awareness to better fight Autism.”
