RE/MAX of New England has released its latest housing report and results show that overall, New England experienced a 14.5% jump in year-to-year sales. However, the month-to-month picture for each state is not as positive. Here is the RE/MAX of New England summary:
• Connecticut witnessed the largest drop in both units sold, -23.6%, and median price, -7.7%, in the region.
• Home sales in Maine were virtually flat, but, a bright note: the state actually posted a 2.4% increase in median price.
• Home sales in Massachusetts dropped sharply, by -13.1%. Only Connecticut posted a larger decline.
• New Hampshire posted declines in both units sold, -9.8%, and median price, -4.0%.
• Rhode Island witnessed just a -1.0% decline in median price, but the number of units sold dropped by -7.6%.
• In Vermont, the number of units sold declined by -3.0%, but a median price increase of 3.0% was the largest in New England.
RE/MAX of New England Executive Vice President Jay Hummer says hot summer days kept many buyers away. He is hopeful that the fall season, coupled with continued low interest rates, will bring steady growth by the end of the year.
