This year marks the centennial of the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®. The first Code was written before license laws and most other regulations governing real estate existed and was seen as a declaration of the founding members’ principles and beliefs.
Adopted on July 29, 1913, the Code is a living document that today undergoes annual review and revision. It has been called a “golden thread,” uniting those devoted to raising the standards of professionalism and service in real estate. In fact, it has been revised over 40 times in its first century. And it will continue to evolve to meet the changing needs of REALTORS®’s clients and customers, and the real estate profession. REALTORS® stand together for their clients, for honesty and integrity, and a nationwide commitment to protect home ownership and the American dream.
For the last century and the next, the Code of Ethics has been why you call yourself a REALTOR®. Join your fellow REALTORS® in celebrating the 100th birthday of the Code that matters in what REALTORS® do every day, and will continue to matter for REALTORS® and for consumers for years to come.
