David Legaz, a broker with Keller Williams Realty Landmark, participated in the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) Leadership Academy’s 2019 class and learned that safety concerns are common—and that many agents are unprepared to deal with them. He petitioned the NAR Leadership Team to create a REALTOR® Safety Advisory Committee and was appointed its first chairperson. NAR increased available funding for REALTOR® Safety Grants and updated online safety resources for members, associations and brokerages.
Before beginning a career in real estate, Legaz served in the New York City Police Department and rose to the rank of sergeant. He retired in 2002 after responding to the World Trade Center tragedy on 9/11 and losing his partner.
“As a retired NYPD police sergeant, keeping REALTORS® safe is a real passion of mine, and I am thankful to NAR’s Leadership Team for their confidence in me,” says Legaz.
