Helping people achieve the dream of homeownership sometimes requires more than just guiding individual families to their new abode. For Keith Smith, the crisis in affordable housing remains one of the largest barriers to broad, equitable homeownership, and it was this issue that he dedicated his considerable talents and passions to in 2021.

Under his leadership this year, the Central Virginia Regional Housing Partnership created a new Regional Housing plan, launched a search tool to help people find affordable homes, secured funding from non-profit and individual donors and pioneered a strategic planning process to navigate long-term affordable housing issues in the area. Working tirelessly on these initiatives while still leading his team, Smith helped create new partnerships between housing advocates, parlaying $140,000 in funding into $1.8 million. All these powerful efforts are ensuring that no one in Smith’s community will be left behind in the pursuit of their dream home.
