Tech Q&A: Five Steps to Becoming Un-LinkedIn

(MCT)—QUESTION: A few months ago I joined LinkedIn, the social website for business, but I’ve found it to be a gigantic pain. I would really like to unsubscribe, but I have not been able to find a way to do it. What would I have to do?

—Linda Myers, Littleton, Colo.

ANSWER: LinkedIn apparently doesn’t want you to leave, because closing your account is a five-step process. But here’s how to get un-LinkedIn:

1. Sign in to your account. Put your cursor over your account name at the upper right side of the screen and click “settings.”
2. On the resulting page, click “account” at the lower left side of the page.
3. Under “helpful links,” choose “close your account.”
4. You’ll be taken to a page titled “close account reason.” Answer the question and click “continue.”
5. You’ll then be asked to verify the account you want to close.
