How to Get the Most Out of Your Walk

It’s recommended that adults get thirty minutes of exercise every day. But in the craziness of day to day life, it’s often difficult to squeeze in a full work out. Walking is a great alternative to get your body moving and your blood pumping. You can do it anytime, anywhere, with anyone and the only equipment you need is a pair of sturdy shoes and yourself! Check out these five tips on how to get the most out of your walk and incorporate it into your everyday life!

Jam Out

Turn up the tunes as you step outside. Create a playlist to match your mood and get your feet moving. Or, get a dose of knowledge with your dose of exercise.  Podcasts are also a fantastic companion to accompany you on your daily walk.

Bring a Buddy

Socialize while you exercise. Whether it’s your pooch or your friend from down the street, a buddy always makes a walk around the block much more exciting. Create a walking group to help hold one another accountable.

Take the Road Less Traveled

Though it’s easy to fall into routine, it always helps to shake it up! Pick a new route to make your daily walk not a want, but a need! Explore new roads, parks, and neighborhoods. Get to know your area and get your daily movement while doing it.

Give Yourself a Goal

Oftentimes it helps to feel like there is a goal to accomplish. Set a distance, time, or destination goal. Perhaps choose a close by coffee shop or restaurant that you’d like to try and get your steps in on your commute over. Then enjoy your snack or drink on your walk back home!

Take in the Scenery

It’s so easy to get so caught up in the hustle and bustle of our day to day lives that we miss the beauty around us! Walks are a great way to take a moment to appreciate the beauty of the world around you. Enjoy the leaves on the trees, the flowers in your neighbor’s front yard, or the faces of the people you walk past.
