Pumpkin Carving Essentials

Pumpkin Carving Essentials

Spooky season is upon us! The nights are longer, the air is cooler, and the neighbors front porches are more filled with creepy decor than ever before. Before you know it, trick-or-treaters will be knocking on your door with the hopes of candy and perhaps a good scare!

One of the easiest ways to get in the Halloween spirit is participating in Halloween-related activities. Perhaps one of the oldest, most creepily classic ways to get involved is carving your own pumpkins.

Fun Pattern

Get kooky and spooky with a fun, bone-chilling design. Whether you’re creating your own jack o’lantern or following an intricate, haunted template, it’s important to sketch out the outline before you carve.

Carving Tool

Use a large, serrated knife to cut a circle at the top of the pumpkin. Smaller paring knives are ideal for cutting more intricate, detailed patterns. You can also purchase pumpkin carving kits, available for children and adults, to ensure that you have all the tools you need.

Large Metal Spoon

Get the gunk out! In order to effectively carve a pumpkin, you must first remove its insides. A large metal spoon will make scooping and gutting easier than making the decision to throw garlic at a vampire in pursuit!

Newspapers

The scariest part of this spooky activity is the mess! Be sure to keep it to a minimum by laying out old newspapers. This will catch any stray goo and gunk and make clean up as breezy as a passing ghost!

Large Bowl

This tool is an absolute must! Toss your discarded pumpkin guts into a large bowl. Once the pumpkin carving fun is over, you can sift through the goo and pick out the seeds! Roast them and turn them into an eerily delicious, crunchy snack!
