Part III – Think Outside the Box

RISMEDIA, August 23, 2008-Do this, do that. Change your marketing. Knock on doors. When every agent is trying to get a piece of the pie, what’s the strategy toward survival and profitability? Continuing in our six-part series industry, Richard Ruff, senior vice president & general manager for Group RCI, gives us his take on how and why some agents thrive more than others, beginning with the concept of thinking outside the box.

Challenge is certainly a word the real estate industry has been hearing quite a bit lately. The industry is facing significant challenge; it should be no surprise that those who continue profiting in the residential real estate sector are, themselves, taking the challenge to think and act, implementing novel, out-of-the-box concepts.

To increase sales, generate leads, and get their names into the community, agents and brokers alike are looking for diverse and unique methods. Using novel tools to connect with clients and offer agents and brokers an edge above competitors has proven positive for many. One such tool is our Resort Vacation Certificates, which agents tell us they are utilizing in many different ways to help boost business.

The stress of buying and selling a home is daunting for customers and the fact that their agent understands what they are going through helps create a valuable relationship that means a great deal.

In this age of easy access to information, we all need to generate creative ideas on how to inspire, build and reward individuals.

We have found over the years that real estate professionals who think out of the box-those who take good ideas and novel tools available and run with them-are the ones who continue being successful year after year. After all, when things get tough…the tough get tougher.

Next week, Maria Mull, vice president of Business Development for AlignMark, joins the conversation, adding that the good agents don’t give up when times get tough-they persevere and continue working toward their goals.
