5 New Year’s Resolutions for Homeowners

The first of the year marks a new start. The new year is always a perfect time to make a new resolution and hit the ground running. This is true for homeowners too, and the mark of a new year is a great time to plan how you will tackle those home to-dos on your list. Here are five New Year’s resolutions you can make as a homeowner.

Create a Home Savings Account

Whether you want to purchase a new home or plan to stay in the home you have for years to come, having a home savings account is paramount. Home maintenance can come with a hefty cost–especially in cases of emergencies like appliance failures or roof leaks. Ensure that the next home repair doesn’t send you into a tailspin by having a home savings account ready for any situation.

Tackle One Looming Project

Every homeowner has at least one project waiting in the wings to be tackled on a rainy day. Make this year the year you finally check that looming project off your to-do list. You’ll feel a lot better without it sitting on the back burner. Whether you need to finally set aside the time or admit that you’ll need a hand from a professional, now is the time to do what it takes to finally get that project completed.

Create Home Maintenance Reminders

Seasonal and annual maintenance is vital to protect your home’s longevity. Seasonal maintenance tasks may be a little time-consuming, but they are rarely too difficult or expensive. Unfortunately, the same is not true for the maintenance emergencies that can arise if regular tasks aren’t completed. This year, don’t forget those annual and seasonal to-dos by marking your calendar to ensure you won’t miss an important chore.

Sign Up for a Home Improvement Workshop

Becoming your own handyman can save you time and money and give you the feeling of a job well done. Make this the year you hone your skills by signing up for a home improvement workshop at your local hardware store. Many exist for all types of skill levels, from beginner and up. There are even female-friendly classes for women who may feel intimidated by the traditional hardware store environment.

Declutter Your Storage Spaces

From garages to shops and beyond, most homeowners have a little storage spot that could use extra love. This year, tackle your closets, pantries and storage areas that could use more organization. Declutter and organize your belongings for a more calm home all year long.
