REALTOR® Party Convention and Trade Expo Takes on Washington

Washington_DC_CapitolNearly 8,500 REALTORS® and guests will gather together in Washington, D.C., May 12-17 for the REALTOR® Party Convention & Trade Expo, where they’ll advocate policies that protect and advance investment in residential and commercial property.

During the legislative and regulatory meetings, REALTORS® will attend informative sessions about the top issues affecting the industry and their business and clients, and will meet directly with legislators, congressional and regulatory staff, and top industry executives who are working to provide real solutions. The meetings will focus on critical real estate issues such as preserving the mission and accessibility of Federal Housing Administration and Veterans Affairs home loan programs, protecting real estate-related tax policies, and reforming the secondary mortgage market.

Registration is free for credentialed media and is required to attend the meetings. Members of the media can register in advance by contacting Yolanda Byrd, 202-383-7515, ybyrd@realtors.org. Onsite registration is in the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel Atrium on Monday, May 12, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Tuesday, May 13, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; Wednesday, May 14 and Thursday, May 15, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.; and Friday, May 16, 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

During the week, REALTORS® will hear perspectives from high-profile guest speakers including Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan, Federal Housing Administration Commissioner Carol Galante, news anchor and political commentator Chris Matthews, political strategists David Plouffe and Steve Schmidt, and Move, Inc. (operator of realtor.com®) CEO Steve Berkowitz.

Tuesday, May 13, will include several notable forums. At the Federal Legislative and Political Forum, Plouffe and Schmidt will share their perspectives on the midterm elections and real estate issues that are pending before Congress. Later that morning, HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan will join FHA Commissioner Carol Galante at the Regulatory Issues Forum to discuss FHA and its role in housing.

Political news commentator Chris Matthews will take the stage Wednesday, May 14 to share his insights on Congress, the administration and November’s midterm elections.

NAR’s Chief Economist Lawrence Yun will share the latest outlooks for residential and commercial real estate markets and the economy during the Residential Economic Issues & Trends Forum on Thursday, May 15 from 8-10 a.m., and at the Commercial Economic Issues & Trends Forum later that same day from 1-3 p.m.
