Howard W. “Hoddy” Hanna III, chairman of one of the largest private real estate companies in the United States, is known as a man of steadfast determination and integrity. After getting his real estate license at 18 and following in his father’s footsteps, Hanna has become an important influence in the real estate community and an industry leader. His innovation in the industry is renowned, and he has always been known as the “idea man,” brimming with energy and charisma.

Since 1981, Howard Hanna Real Estate Services has been delivering a fully integrated home-buying experience, from mortgage and title to relocation and insurance services. The company’s continuing goal of leading in sales, mortgages and closings has led to many honors for Hanna. He has been recognized by La Roche University as the recipient of their Ad Lucem Award in honor of the Hanna Family’s vision, leadership and determination. The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has also awarded Hanna with the National American Heritage Award, given to individuals who serve their community through work and deed, and Junior Achievement of Western Pennsylvania has named him their “Man of the Year.”

An active member of his community, Hanna has served as chair of the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Board of Trustees for the past 12 years and as director of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) for the past 21 years. He is also a member on many boards, from financial groups to universities. Hanna also personally chairs the annual Howard Hanna Children’s Free Care Fundraising drive. Since 1988, the campaign has raised and donated more than $19 million to children’s hospitals where the company does business.

Hanna was also awarded the National Association of REALTORS®’ Good Neighbor Award in 2017, and the RISMedia/Bank of America National Homeownership Award in 2009.
