After retiring from a 22-year career in the military, Joe Chesko, sales associate at RE/MAX Professionals, pursued a new career in real estate. For more than 20 years, he has served hundreds of families and has consistently been ranked among the Top 10 RE/MAX REALTORS® in Oklahoma. Chesko specializes in VA, FHA, USDA and conventional mortgage programs, as well as short sales and relocation transactions. He previously served for four years as MLS chairman of the Lawton Board of REALTORS®.
When Chesko saw a child in a wheelchair watching from the sidelines as other children laughed and played on the playground at a park, he was determined to change things. He wanted to build a playground where all children could play with their friends and siblings, even if they had developmental delays or disabilities.
Chesko created Children United, a group whose mission is to raise money to build a playground with equipment that can be used by children at all developmental stages. After looking online, Chesko found playground equipment made for children with limited mobility, including wheelchair swings and handicapped-accessible merry-go-rounds.
Children United partnered with the Lawton Enhancement Trust Authority to host a series of fundraisers, including a “Dancing with the Stars”-style event, in 2019 to garner public support. The group is getting closer and closer to meeting its fundraising goal.
Chesko is a life member of the local Desert Shield/Storm Veterans Association. He is dedicated to giving back to his community and has served on several boards and committees.
