"This program is an extension of Dave Cobo's leading-edge thinking; to create leaders within the organization," said Ed Krafchow, president of PCR. "We want to develop leaders for the company who are trained to improve their performance by using effective leadership skills."
Participants in the program are PCR agents with a maximum of two years of real estate experience who have been nominated by their managers or hand-picked by the president. Rebecca Prohl, professor of St. Mary's Management Program, has tailored a program for these agents where they set a clear direction for their future development, demonstrate an ability to evaluate ethical dilemmas, make socially responsible decisions, and risk action on behalf of their beliefs and commitments.
"The course has a strong liberal arts component, aimed at ensuring that participants develop habits of critical thinking and a desire for lifelong learning," said Prohl. "Through discussion and self-reflection, they examine their own personal motivations for leadership, their personal strengths and leadership qualities, and the challenges they will face as they exercise leadership."
The certificate program is 12 months in length and two courses per trimester are offered including: Personal Power and Leadership, Organizational Effectiveness, Project Planning and Development, Ethics and Leadership, Corporate Finance and Leadership in a Diverse Society.
"The Leadership Certificate program for Prudential California Realty employees builds on, while not duplicating, the exceptional training programs already offered at PCR," says Cobo. "These 17 outstanding agents have examined how leaders motivate through communicating their visions and explore how leaders foster environments that are conducive to achieving their goals."
Program Philosophy
The Leadership Certificate Program is built on the traditions of Saint Mary's College while tailoring it to meet the needs of Prudential California Realty employees. It has a strong liberal arts component, aimed at ensuring that participants develop habits of critical thinking and a desire for lifelong learning. Participants are asked to examine their own values systems, take action on behalf of their beliefs and commitments, and make leadership choices that are congruent with their inner voice or soul. Finally, the program includes a journey into self-discovery. Participants examine their own leadership potential and identify ways in which they can help shape the mission, goals and culture of organizations.
