REALTORS® Take Their Message to Nation’s Capitol

US_Capitol_BuildingNext month REALTORS® will head to Washington, D.C., for the REALTOR® Party Convention & Trade Expo, May 12-17, to promote public policies that protect investment in commercial and residential property and advance the real estate industry and REALTOR® business. Nearly 8,500 REALTORS® and guests are expected to attend the meetings.

Throughout the week, REALTORS® will attend educational sessions and meet directly with legislators, congressional and regulatory staff, and top industry executives to discuss the latest legislative and regulatory issues affecting residential and commercial real estate. REALTORS® will also be conducting meetings with Obama administration officials, including Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Director Richard Cordray and senior leadership at the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The legislative and regulatory meetings will focus on critical real estate issues like preserving the mission and accessibility of Federal Housing Administration and VA home loan programs, the federal rulemaking process, protecting real estate-related tax policies, and reforming the secondary mortgage market to provide stability for housing markets.

Speakers and guest panelists throughout the week include Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan, Federal Housing Administration Commissioner Carol Galante, news anchor and political commentator Chris Matthews, political strategists David Plouffe and Steve Schmidt, and Move, Inc. (operator of realtor.com®) CEO Steve Berkowitz.

Also during the meeting, NAR’s Chief Economist Lawrence Yun will share the latest outlooks for residential and commercial real estate markets and the economy during the Economic Issues & Residential Real Estate Business Trends Forum on Thursday, May 15 from 8-10 a.m., and at the Economic Issues & Commercial Business Trends Forum later that same day from 1-3 p.m.

The Trade Expo will be open Wednesday, May 14 and Thursday, May 15 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. More than 110 industry-leading companies will demonstrate the latest real estate products and services and explain how they are transforming the way REALTORS® do business.
