It’s summer and that means it’s beach season. As brief as it is, we all want to take as much advantage of it as we possibly can. The good news is, you don’t even need to leave the country to find some of the most beautiful beaches on the planet. It’s warm enough to spend some time sunbathing in Canada, so here are the beaches you should try to escape to this season.
Kathleen Lake, Yukon
While you probably aren’t heading to the Yukon to go sunbathing, Kathleen Lake provides one of the most gorgeous beach landscapes you will find anywhere in the world. With trout and artic grayling in abundance, it is a destination fishing area and wildlife paradise. Beware the grizzlies though—this is not the spot to do family activities with the kids.
Wasaga Beach, Ontario
Known for being the world’s longest freshwater beach at 14 kilometers, this Georgian Bay escape is one of the most popular beaches in Canada. With white sand and blue water that looks more like a Florida beach than anything you’d usually find up north, it attracts both the summer party crowd and families, providing the best of both worlds.
Hopewell Rocks, New Brunswick
Beloved for its age-old rock formations created by the Bay of Fundy tide, this spot attracts tourists and locals alike every summer, particularly at the end of July when around one million shorebirds stop here before heading south. It also features the highest tides in the world, reaching 16 meters on rare occasions.
Sylvan Lake, Alberta
Since Alberta is in the prairies, there aren’t a whole lot of beaches to escape to—that’s why Sylvan Lake is prized for its 16 kilometers of shoreline that attracts swimming, water skiing, wakeboarding, scuba diving, boating and fishing.
Lawrencetown Beach, Nova Scotia
While it’s a smaller beach at only 1.5 kilometers long, that doesn’t mean it has any less impact than its more massive counterparts. It provides prime surfing real estate, and attracts hikers, mountain biking, families and body boarders to the small body of water.
