The new year is a great time to start fresh, tackle that project you’ve been putting off or create new habits. This mindset can also transfer to your home. Below are four ways you can update your space in the new year.
Paint. Nothing rings in a new year for your home like a fresh coat of paint. Choose a few rooms to redo in a new color, or simply freshen up your staple hue. Don’t want to commit to a whole room? Keep it simple and paint your front door an inviting red or cheery blue, or repaint those old cabinets in the kitchen or bathroom.
Energy Improvements. Many local utility companies offer free energy audits on homes in their area, so reach out to your provider to see if you can scrutinize your energy expenditure. From there, you may want to switch to eco-friendly appliances like refrigerators, washing machines and toilets. Or, for lower cost changes, look into low-flow shower heads and LED bulbs.
Update Old Fixtures. Your kitchen and bathroom could look brand-new with updated fixtures. Swap out old faucets, cabinetry hardware and lighting fixtures to make your old space shine.
Maximize Your Space. Have a large storage closet that’s just a holding ground for junk? How about an empty corner of your finished basement? If you have a little bit of a budget, you can create new spaces from unused ones. Turn that large closet into a home office nook, add a bathroom to that basement corner or create a craft space for your hobby or side business.
