On Monday, Jan. 18, president-elect Joe Biden nominated Rohit Chopra to lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

Chopra is currently a member of the Federal Trade Commission, and if confirmed will return to the CFPB where he previously worked in the student loan sector.

“Our administration will hit the ground running to deliver immediate, urgent relief to Americans; confront the overlapping crises of COVID-19, the historic economic downturn, systemic racism and inequality and the climate crisis; and get this government working for the people it serves,” Biden said of the recent nominees. “These tireless public servants will be a key part of our agenda to build back better—and I am confident they will help make meaningful change and move our country forward.”

In December, Biden nominated Rep. Marcia Fudge as the next U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

“Congresswoman Marcia Fudge, a leading voice for working families who has represented Ohio’s 11th Congressional District for the last twelve years, is nominated to serve as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. A former mayor of Warrensville Heights, Ohio, and past Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, Congresswoman Fudge is a longtime champion of affordable housing, urban revitalization, infrastructure investment, and other reforms to enhance the safety, prosperity, and sustainability of American communities,” according to a statement from Biden’s team. “If confirmed, she will be the first woman to lead HUD in more than 40 years and the second Black woman in history to lead the Department.”
