The Eagle Has Landed, and All Is Well

RISMEDIA, August 25, 2009-Just over 40 years ago, Neil Armstrong opened the hatch of his lunar module and stepped out onto the surface of the moon. The moment was recorded and transmitted to over 600 million people around the globe who marveled at this extraordinary accomplishment.

Given the number of things that could go wrong with the first moon walk, the event seemed rather smooth to most of us watching our television sets. Although most eyes were on Armstrong, Aldrin, Nixon and Cronkite, the moon walk could not and would not have taken place without all the “little people” behind the scenes who made it happen.

Your next move, or the move of your clients, may not be to the moon- but a successful landing is the desired result for all involved. Making that happen requires the involvement of many people and carefully orchestrated logistics.

Keep in mind that a successful move requires the cooperation of these individuals:

Client: Understanding the process and timeline of a move can dramatically increase the chance of a successful move.

Van Line Coordinator: A van line coordinator is the “conductor” who assigns a surveyor to the move, provides estimates, and ensures that the pack, load, and move dates are set and kept. This is also the person to contact if something is not going according to plan.

Surveyor: In order to have a “binding” or guaranteed quote, you must have a visual survey. If a van line offers you or your client a quote over the phone it is not binding or guaranteed. The surveyor comes to the home, visually assesses the weight of the shipment and provides this information to the van line coordinator/estimator.

Pack Crew and Load Crew: Once move dates are set a truck, driver, and pack and load crews will be assigned. The packers and loaders of reputable van line companies have been trained specifically to ensure that household goods will arrive at their destination in the same condition they were in before packing.

Driver: The van line driver not only drives the shipment from point A to point B, he or she often is also the person overseeing and responsible for the crew doing the loading and the crew doing the unloading.

Ensuring the safe and successful landing of your client takes the cooperation of many people. The Move Advocate is in the business of safe landings. Years of experience and partnerships with the industry’s leading service providers allows the Move Advocate to orchestrate successful moves for thousands of families each year.
