RISMEDIA, October 12, 2010—According to Movers.com usage data, the states that had the most moving traffic in the second quarter of 2010 were California, Florida, Texas, New York and New Jersey, respectively.
Out of those states, New Jersey is of particular note, as it had the second-most move-outs, but not a significant amount of move-ins. Florida and Texas had the second- and third-highest moving turnovers (change in population due to moving), both seeing more people move in than out. Of all the Movers.com-associated moves that occurred in Texas, 60% were move-ins. In Florida, that number was 56.8%.
The cities to see the most moving traffic in the second quarter of 2010 were Houston, Chicago, Phoenix, Orlando, and Los Angeles. Of those states, Houston had the largest moving turnover with 62.8% of its total moves being move-ins. Orlando came next at 62.2%.
There were, however, four cities that, when compared to the five cities above, experienced larger turnover, despite less overall moving traffic. Atlanta and Charlotte had the 3rd and 7th most total move-ins, but did not have a significant amount of move-outs (meaning they had the largest increase in population due to moving). On the other hand, Brooklyn and San Diego had the 3rd and 5th most move-outs, but did not have a significant number of move-ins (meaning they had the largest decrease in population due to moving).
