The Eastern Bergen County Board of REALTORSR (EBCBOR) teamed up with The Center for Food Action (CFA) in Englewood, N.J. for the new initiative, “The Weekend Snack Pack Program” (WSPP) to help fight weekend hunger for children in Bergen County, the company has announced. Through volunteer donations, EBCBOR Community Service Committee raised $1,250 exceeded its six-month goal by 25 percent.
Jennifer Rothman, Director of Communication for CFA says, “In 2011 the number of children who benefitted from CFA emergency food program has grown
18 percent from 2010; it is because of the generous donations and volunteer hours from organizations like EBCBOR that it is possible for our staff to meet that increasing need.” According to the CFA, many children who receive free or reduced priced school meals are left without adequate nutrition on the weekend and holiday breaks. The WSPP is designed to fill this gap by providing healthy, kid-friendly, and easy to prepare snack foods to children at risk of hunger.
“Through our charitable contributions and member involvement, EBCBOR strives to help create more productive and enriched communities,” says Eileen O’Driscoll EBCBOR President. In addition to the monetary donations, members of the EBCBOR spend hours volunteering and collecting food donations for the CFA’s other programs, including the annual Thanksgiving turkey and food basket drive.
