J. Rockcliff REALTORS®, a leading residential real estate brokerage in the San Francisco East Bay, recently announced that Barry Zwahlen of the company’s Blackhawk office has been named REALTOR® of the Year for 2013 by the Contra Costa Association of REALTORS®.

“Barry is an exceptional REALTOR® and an incredibly valuable member of the communities he serves,” says Vance Smith, vice president and manager of J. Rockcliff’s Blackhawk offices. “It gives me great pleasure to congratulate him on this well-deserved acknowledgement. He has achieved great respect in the industry for his leadership and skill, and this award illustrates that.”

Zwahlen works with his wife Brenda and has been a REALTOR® for more than a decade. Prior to entering the real estate industry, Zwahlen was in the United States Air Force for five years until retiring as a Captain. He also spent six years in corporate finance working for two Fortune 500 companies and was the owner of a prominent technology consulting company for 20 years.

A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Zwahlen received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from the University of Pittsburgh, and his MBA from the Harvard Business School.

Zwahlen has been actively involved in The Contra Costa Association of REALTORS (CCAR), The California Association of REALTORS® (CAR), and The National Association of REALTORS (NAR), since 2006. He currently serves on the Legislative Committees of both CCAR and CAR, on the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) Committee of CAR, and is Vice Chair of the Housing Affordability Fund (HAF) for CAR. In addition he is a member of the Major Investor Council for NAR. Zwahlen also served as president of CCAR in 2010.

Zwahlen is also a highly active member of his community. He has been a member of Danville’s Community Presbyterian Church for nearly 30 years and is an ordained Elder in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC). His current Elder responsibilities include operational oversight of the San Ramon Valley Christian Academy, the Community Presbyterian Preschool, and church facilities. He also serves on the church administrative committee and the church nominating committee.

Married for 40 years, Barry and Brenda Zwahlen are residents of Blackhawk and have two grown daughters and five grandchildren.
