Key Issues Threaten the Rise of Hispanic Homebuyers

Home News
January 29, 2014
Reading Time: 2 mins read

Hispanic_HomebuyersImmigration reform, sweeping changes in policies and regulations and the rising racial wealth gap and their impact on Hispanic homeownership are among the central issues Hispanic real estate leaders will discuss next week at the NAHREP 2014 Housing Policy & Hispanic Lending Conference in Washington D.C. on February 4-6. The annual forum, which will be held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Georgetown, is hosted by the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals and is the largest event of its kind focused on the Hispanic homeownership market. The program attracts Hispanic real estate leaders, elected officials, housing experts and practitioners from across the nation.

“Immigration reform, QRM and QM all have an impact on the homeownership potential of the Hispanic community,” said Gary Acosta, NAHREP CEO and co-founder. “The implications of how reforms impact the buying ability of this next wave of homebuyers will affect us all and will have greater consequences to the national housing market.”

NAHREP’s 2014 program will include appearances by HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan, former HUD Secretary Henry Cisneros, Rep. Juan Vargas, Rep. Tony Cardenas and Dr. Victoria M. DeFrancesco Soto; Ali Noorani of the National Immigration forum; and senior executives Richard Smith, Realogy; Teresa Bryce Bazemore, Radian Guaranty; Rick Sharga, Auction.com and Franklin Codel, Wells Fargo.

The general session discussions will center on immigration reform, the racial wealth gap, new lending regulations and the rise of the Nuevo Latino. The association also plans to announce a new initiative that addresses the disparity in Hispanic household wealth and a blueprint for tripling it over the next 10 years.

Secretary Donovan’s remarks and the general session program will be available for public viewing via streaming video at http://nahrep.org/nahreptv.
