Not only being open to change but being able to adapt to it is key to getting through challenging times in business for Wally Kowis, corporate broker for Realty ONE Group in Las Vegas. RISMedia recently caught up with Kowis, who discussed this and other insights into his company’s success.

Key to staying profitable: Be positive. Real estate professionals should be attracting positive, productive, like-minded people who possess the same desire to do business together.

Can’t live without tech tool: There isn’t just one. Today, it’s all about mobile platforms, hashtags, social media and apps.

Best tip for working together: Be nice! Take full responsibility and build relationships.

As you celebrate the 10-year anniversary of your company, what got you through the most challenging times?

We got through our most challenging times by not only being open to change, but being able to adapt to it. Another critical component that has contributed to our continued success comes from our mindset that centers around being comfortable being uncomfortable. We’re also 100 percent dedicated to changing before anyone else does—or even wants to.

I understand you believe in developing culture and relationships within your firm. What is the most important thing to know about each?

Human beings ultimately want to be a part of something bigger than themselves. At the same time, you become a product of your environment. Not only is it important to remember that everyone has a voice, but it’s crucial that we listen more than we speak. Life is about relationships. We weren’t designed to do life alone, so my environment is all about experiencing as many “wow” moments in a day as possible.

You also stress a concept called abundance vs. scarcity of thinking. How would you explain this to a colleague?

In business and in life, it’s all about the end result. When you attract more success or more people, you have more results. With that being said, you’re obviously doing more things correctly than not. When you come from a true and honest place of abundance in your heart, it’s inevitable that abundance will prevail.

Is there a philanthropic/volunteer initiative helping keep your company top of mind with prospects, clients, and in the communities you serve?

We have a cool culture that attracts more people to our company through things like our #GiveONEBack movement, which celebrates a new way to give back each month. In the end, it all boils down to giving more than we take.
